Summer Nights
![]()
Operation Summer Nights aims to tackle and prevent anti-social behaviour during July and August. It particularly focuses on those actions that often result from people drinking too much alcohol and seeks to let people know that this kind of behaviour is not acceptable in County Durham. It also builds on the positive work and behaviour of most young people, encouraging everyone to make respecting themselves and others a greater consideration.
The partnership includes many public service agencies which have joined forces to take every opportunity to reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour and increase community reassurance.
The message here is to drink safely and responsibily this summer. Recognise and appreciate the effect your behaviours may have on others in your community and where you are drinking. This is about having a good time, and your good times not turning bad, as a result of accidents, or ending up in hospital or police cells for the night.
We are asking people to think about the effect their behaviour is having on others, particularly when they are using alcohol. We want you to respect yourself, and respect others. Drink sensibly this summer. Stay safe, and stay healthy.
A number of communities have identified areas where they perceive antisocial behaviour and minor criminal damage is occurring and is related to alcohol misuse. Sometimes minor things people do can have a major effect on others.
Updates will be provided about Operation Summer Nights as initiatives get underway across the county, and you can find those here as they happen.
How Operation Summer Nights works across the partnerships
Our growing list of partners include:
County Durham and Darlington Drugs & Alcohol Action Teams, Durham Fire and Rescue Service, The County Durham & Darlington Youth Offending Teams, Youth Engagement Service, the Durham Local Criminal Justice Board, County Durham & Darlington's Crime and Disorder and Local Strategic Partnerships and The Crown Prosecution Service, & Durham Probation Service.
Operation Summer Nights is a multi-agency crime reduction and public reassurance campaign, which aims to prevent anti-social behaviour, particularly when its alcohol related. It will be running across the whole of County Durham & Darlington from the 21st July to the end of August 2008.
Operation Summer Nights has three distinct strands:
- To demonstrate to members of the public that the partners are working together to take action on anti-social behaviour at a critical time of year when we often experience an increase - particularly in relation to incidents arising from drinking.
- To promote personal health and safety and build on the positive work and behaviour of most young people, encouraging everyone to make respecting themselves and others a greater consideration.
- To disseminate prevention or enforcement messages to those who may be behaving, or at-risk of behaving, anti-socially.
