North East Air Support Unit
The North East Air Support Unit formed in 1995, is a consortium of the Cleveland, Durham, and Northumbria police services.
The unit provides operational support to all three forces, operating two EC 135 helicopters, one from Newcastle International Airport and one from Durham Tees Valley Airport.
Durham Constabulary currently has five police constables posted to the unit.
Both aircraft are equipped with a Nite-Sun searchlight, daylight video camera, thermal imaging camera, and digital still cameras, and a stretcher.
The aircraft are used for crime scene searches, suspect vehicle pursuits, missing person searches, and casualty evacuation.
