Crimestoppers

Welcome to the only charity helping to solve crimes.

Crimestoppers is an independent UK-wide charity working to stop crime. Crimestoppers works for you, your family and your community. Call Crimestoppers anonymously on:
0800 555 111. Just tell us what you know, not who you are.

Crimestoppers operates across the UK to help identify, prevent, solve and reduce crime. This invaluable community service enables anyone with details of criminal activity to pass them on anonymously, without fear of exposure or retribution.

All it takes to pass on information is one call to 0800 555 111. Every call is treated with absolute anonymity so that nobody will know the identity of the caller, except you, the caller. Rewards are also available and are paid without compromising a caller's anonymity.

Crimestoppers callers know what's going on but can't, or won't, walk into a police station. You may know the person involved, have overheard something you shouldn't, seen something and don't know what to do. Whatever it is you know, whether something about a crime or a criminal, tell us what you know, not who you are.

Crimestoppers key function is to ensure your information about crime reaches the police or other relevant authority. You won't be asked your name, nor to make a formal statement or to give evidence in court. Perhaps most importantly, because you've given information anonymously you needn't fear reprisals. Even in this communications age picking up the phone is the easiest and the best way to pass on your information to Crimestoppers. We will never attempt to trace or record your call - not even for quality control or monitoring purposes. We do not have the facility to use 1471 to find a phone number. If you are at all concerned reassure yourself by dialing 141 before 0800 555 111 which blocks your phone number. Or use a phone box - it's free.

Remember if the anonymity of one of our callers was compromised it would impact on Crimestoppers as no one would feel they could trust us. This is why it is so important to us that we can guarantee your anonymity.

The most valuable information comes from a phone call. Our experienced call operators can make sure we have all the correct information, no opportunity for confusion over a name or address. Your information can therefore be used to best effect in solving crimes.

Remember

Crimestoppers is not an emergency service andif you see a crime taking place you should ring 999 to report it immediately.

History

Crimestoppers was set up in 1988 to break the wall of silence that surrounds most crime and that criminal's exploit to avoid arrest. The anonymous number provided a lifeline to people who had information that they wanted to share but felt at risk from retribution.
The 0800 555 111 number ensures that no one need ever know who you are when you call. You will not be asked your name, your call will not be traced or recorded and you do not have to give a statement or go to court.

It's a simple, secure service that allows us to put the police in the picture, without anyone knowing who provided the information that brought criminals to justice. Working in this way we have created a highly effective system built on integrity and trust that works for everyone - except criminals.

Crimestoppers Most Wanted

In November 2005 Crimestoppers launched a most wanted web.

The Most Wanted system has been designed by Crimestoppers to provide a comprehensive record of current police appeals across the UK. All appeals are entered and edited by the contributing Police Forces.

Although Crimestoppers provides a form for feedback and inaccurate information, this information is sent directly to the publishing force for observation and amendment where necessary.

The system includes the national Most Wanted list and specific Local appeals for which we urgently need further information. The advanced Search facility can help you find specific appeals anywhere in the UK.

Crimestoppers works!

North East Crimestoppers plays an important role in the fight against crime in the North East region.

Since 1988 the North East Crimestoppers office has received in the region of 40,000 calls from members of the public passing on valuable information about criminal activity and persons responsible. This information has resulted in over 900 persons being arrested and charged with criminal offences, over 2,000 crimes being detected (including two murders), and the recovery of £1.2 million in property and drugs within the Durham Constabulary area.
