Appeal Information

Firearms legislation allows an appeal against certain police decisions as:

There is no statutory right of appeal against firearm certificate conditions imposed by the Chief Constable, although additions which may be considered unreasonable by the certificate holder may be challenged by way of Judicial review at the High Court.

An appellant must give notice of their appeal in writing to the Administrator of the Crown Court and the Chief Constable within 21 days of receipt of the refusal or revocation notice. The Administrator of the Crown Court may be contacted at Crown Court Offices, The Law Courts, Old Elvet, Durham, DH1 3HW.

The appeal is heard before a Crown Court Judge and two Magistrates whereby the Court will consider the case afresh together with any new matters which may have come to light since the decision of the Chief Constable was made.
