Aiming for Excellence

 Chief Constable Jon Stoddart

The philosophy is based upon four key principles:

Leadership at all levels within the organisation

Role clarity

Accountability for performance

Open communication

These principles provide the mechanisms through which Durham Constabulary will deliver its vision of being the best in community focused policing and describe the way in which our people are led, organised, managed, developed and consulted.

We have set out in our vision for policing 'WHAT' we need to deliver over the coming years to provide a service that is focused upon and responsive to community needs and expectations and contributes to creating safe, healthy and prosperous communities.

Our framework of core values defines the 'STYLE' in which our staff will operate and will place the citizen at the heart of all our activities. - 'a citizen-focused service will come first.'

Aiming for Excellence defines the organisational philosophy of Durham Constabulary. It underpins 'HOW' we deliver our policing services and drives the performance of all our staff towards EXCELLENCE IN SERVICE DELIVERY.

The overarching theme of ensuring staff at all levels of the organisation are focused upon SERVICE DELIVERY and are supported and empowered in what they do has been central to this level of success.
