Durham Constabulary Major Crime Team

The major crime team is based at police headquarters and consists of 1 Detective Inspector, 2 Detective Sergeants and 12 Detective Constables. In addition the unit incorporates the forces' HOLMES team (Home Office Large Major Enquiry System - a computersised data storage and retrieval system).

The team is deployed to all Murders and other serous crimes as directed by senior investigating officers (SIO's).

Officers within the team perform supervisor roles in major incidents and are responsible for the collection of all potential evidential material and any subsequent case file preparation.

The major crime team is also responsible for supervision of the deployment of family liaison officers (FLO's) throughout the force.
